The long awaited Kalahari Resort & Convention center project in the Poconos is opened yesterday in Tobyhanna Township with great fanfare.
The initial portion of the two-phase project, includes an outdoor adventure park, hotel, convention center, spa and salon, golf course, retail shops, full-service restaurants and indoor and outdoor water parks. The $350 millon dollar destination is the Wisconsin-based company’s first resort in the Poconos.
“This is a spectacular project that lives up to the hype,” says Pocono Mountains Economic Development Corporation (PMEDC) Marketing Director Michelle Bisbing. “But the most exciting part is that this facility is adding jobs at all levels for residents of Monroe County.”
The second part, to be completed in March 2017, includes adding 400 guest rooms to the hotel, bringing the total number of rooms and suites to 857.
“Kalahari is thrilled to bring our authentic African resort experience to the East Coast,” says Todd Nelson, owner and president of Kalahari Resorts. “As the Pocono Mountains property begins construction, we look forward to contributing to the local economy and sharing our beyond expectations approach to hospitality with area vacation goers, conference attendees and local guests throughout the Pocono region.”
