Monroe County is home to more than 8,500 acres of State Game Lands. The State Game Lands provide excellent opportunities for hiking, hunting, and fishing. Three State Parks also offer areas for camping, hiking, picnicking, boating, fishing and swimming.
Big Pocono State Park in Tannersville features the highest point in the area, 2131 feet above sea level, allowing visitors a 360 degree panorama of the region. Gouldsboro State Park, located at the county’s northern end, has a 220-acre lake for boating, fishing, and swimming, along with picnic areas and walking trails. Tobyhanna State Park, covering 8.5 square miles including a 170 acre lake, also offers boating, swimming, camping, fishing, walking trails and picnic areas. Many private campgrounds in the area have similar amenities.
