The Project is asking cell carriers and broadband providers to fix massive dead cell zones in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. “One of my priorities as a County Commissioner is stronger and more affordable broadband and cell service in Monroe County,” stated Sharon Laverdure, Chairman of the Monroe County Board of Commissioners. “There are public safety concerns with dead cell zones. Plus, our schools, businesses and families need excellent broadband and WiFi at affordable prices.”
Dead Cell Zone Projects are designed to identify areas with little or zero cell service and then launch a full-blown marketing, engagement and political campaign to get the wireless industry to eliminate the dead cell zones. The project will also meet with municipal leaders to share the survey results and ask every municipality to identify 6 to 8 preferred locations in each township and borough for cell sites or cell site optimizations. Prior projects have created strong recurring revenue for volunteer fire companies, non-profits, resorts, community associations, school districts and municipalities. Of course, sites must meet all zoning and tower regulations!
Bushkill Ambulance company has identified a property in Wooddale, Middle Smithfield Township ideally situated to support a cell tower in a strategic location with poor to zero cell service that could serve thousands of homes.
With 90% of emergency calls generated from cell phones, dead cell zones represent a public safety risk to citizens, families and first responders.
The Pocono Mountains are one of the most popular resort and vacation areas in the United States. Monroe County is a key crossroads, strategically located at the intersections of Interstate 80, Routes 33, 611, 209 and the Northeast Extension of the PA Turnpike connecting Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Lehigh Valley, central PA and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Residents, visitors and commerce expect the best communications and public safety protections available.

Through the survey, we identified dozens of dead cell zones. While the industry is bragging about 5G, it’s time for cell carriers to fix and invest in areas with zero service. It’s time for local, state and federal officials to focus the cell industry on fixing dead zones. We will look forward to meeting with municipal leaders to ask them to propose and identify 6-8 preferred locations that can also generate reoccurring revenue for first responders, municipalities, non-profits, resorts and community associations.
