Work Force

If you are looking for an area that can provide your business with a skilled available work force consider that Monroe County is one of the fastest growing counties in Pennsylvania. Since 1980 the population has increased 100%. From 1980 to 1990 Monroe County’s population growth rate was almost triple the national average. On a percentage basis that makes the county one of the fastest growing labor forces in
the US. Currently, Monroe County’s workforce is almost 85,000 people.

More importantly, the county is one of the few areas within Pennsylvania that has shown consistent increases in the number of young adults (ages 18 to 34) residing in the county. For companies seeking new workers this is a critical number.

With a high school graduation rate that exceeds the state and national averages and a higher than average educational attainment level, the work force here is ready-to-go. But if training is needed an extremely well developed system of on-the-job and customized job training is already in place to satisfy the most rigorous training needs.

Pennsylvania CareerLink

With the implementation of the Workforce Investment Act in January 2000, Pennsylvania took an aggressive approach and developed the one-stop career center system called Pennsylvania CareerLink. We were the first state to integrate physical one stop centers with the virtual on-line system found at www.cwds.state.pa.us. This system allows both employers and job seekers access to services 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Find information on services offered at the Monroe County CareerLink for both job seekers and employers at www.monroecountycareerlink.org.

Also, more than 20,000 residents of Monroe County presently commute to New Jersey or New York, but most are willing to admit that they would prefer to work in Monroe if work were available to them. Many of these commuters are highly skilled. High skill levels, abundant entry-level workers and a high growth rate all combine for the benefit of employers. Monroe County is in a unique position to provide the workforce that businesses need to succeed.
