Our Research

In May 2005, PMEDC completed an analysis of the state of advanced telecommunications services in Monroe County. Click here to download a PDF of the study .

The analysis made four recommendations to mitigate some of our challenges:

  1. Aggregate commercial demand for high-capacity broadband services.
  2. Improve telecommunications links to New York City.
  3. Assist in finding ways for schools to use their new bandwidth.
  4. Market the region’s technology strengths.

PMEDC has worked to implement these recommendations and the current Broadband Aggregation and Outreach Fund (BOAF) project is an integral part.

In October 2005, PMEDC, along with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance , hosted a Demand Aggregation workshop conducted by the Appalachian Regional Commission . One important outcome of the meeting was consensus among the attendees that PMEDC could act as the community champion in a commercial demand aggregation project.

PMEDC also has been actively involved with the Wall Street West initiative with DCED and the Governor’s Office. The Penn Regional Business Center is an important component of this project for Monroe County.

In addition, PMEDC has launched early efforts to make telecommunications a critical component of our business marketing strategy.

PMEDC Board Members, executive leaders, and staff all understand the value of advanced telecommunications in our regional economic development strategy. We continue to expand our knowledge of the field and have pledged to grow our commitment to the industry across the region. PMEDC has both the capacity and the commitment to implement a successful outreach and aggregation project.
