Monroe County is a lush, four-season resort area located on 609 square miles in the Pocono Mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania. Bi-sected by Interstate 80, the area has become a virtual bedroom community for former residents of the NY/NJ and Philadelphia metro areas. As a result, our population has grown by more than 100 percent since 1980 and more than half our residents are between the ages of 18 and 54 – prime employees for your corporation!
Today, a large part of our industry base remains in tourism, but it is nicely mixed with manufacturing, logistics, electronics, and pharmaceuticals. The county’s largest public employer is Tobyhanna Army Depot with almost 4,000 employees and known for their excellence in electronics. sanofi pasteur, the vaccines division of sanofi aventis, is the county’s largest private employer of 2,400. Retail trade is also a strong economic driver in the area.
